Archery GB Junior National Championships 2016

Archery GB LogoAn awesome weekend at the Junior National Outdoor Championships at Lilleshall National Sport Centre for Llantarnam juniors on 2nd and 3rd July 2016.

The weather stayed dry with a blustery day yesterday and a lovely hot and sunny day today which made for some great shooting and our juniors did the club proud.

Thea Rogers brought home the bling, coming first in the Metrics on day one and second in the Bristols on day two. Congratulations to Thea on becoming the U16 British Metric Champion and breaking another two Welsh records. Thea narrowly missed out on coming first in the Bristols – it came down to the number of golds.

Ieuan Cooke and Jack Powell shot well over the whole weekend with Ieuan coming 13/28 in the metrics on day one and 14/25 in the Bristols on day two, and Jack coming 5/17 in the metrics and 8/16 in the Bristols. Ieuan also managed to break the Gwent record (read more).

Matthew Lessimore of Gwent Bowmen came 16/28 in the U18 category on day one and 16/25 in the Bristols on day two.

There were 91 targets spread over Lilleshall’s archery field and neighbouring football pitches along with two small villages made up of neatly arranged tents. And the atmosphere crackled with excitement as juniors from around the UK put themselves to the test.
